PEKAN:
All Umno members and leaders must unite to oppose former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad as well as other former party leaders from “burning down” the party that has been sheltering the Malays, says the party’s Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun.

He said Umno members should be aware that Mahathir was no longer the party warrior.

“The Dr Mahathir we see now is trying to burn down the Umno house. As soon as he left the party, he was willing to sit with the Opposition merely to topple the Prime Minister (Najib Razak).

“We need to rise up and stop him from carrying out this destruction as the party is the shelter for our children,” he told reporters after opening the Pekan Umno Youth delegates’ meeting here, today.

Khairul Azwan also said Mahathir’s recent statements, hinting that three “Tan Sri” had conspired to topple the prime minister clearly proved the police report the Youth vice-chief lodged on the matter was true.

“Dr Mahathir himself admitted that the three Tan Sri had been betrayed and the statement confirms the conspiracy really took place and was in his knowledge, this is what Dr Mahathir said voluntarily.

“So it is up to the police to investigate what I reported earlier following the latest statement by Dr Mahathir,” he said.

The Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar in his statement before this said police were not pursuing the report made by Khairul Azwan as it was based on hearsay and assumptions without any strong evidence.

On July 26, Khairul Azwan lodged a police report against former Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz; former Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail and former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed for planning a conspiracy to topple the prime minister.

The trio were alleged to be the three “Tan Sri” Mahathir was referring to.
