KUALA LUMPUR:
The Royal Malaysian Police are liaising with Interpol to track down a fugitive with the title of “Datuk” for allegedly masterminding the murder of Miri PKR Secretary Bill Kayong in June.

Sarawak CID chief Dev Kumar M M Sree Shunmugam said police were awaiting Interpol feedback on the 45-year-old man’s current location after he was last spotted in Singapore on July 3, enroute to Australia.

“We are still in touch with Interpol but have not received any information to date,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

Asked if the fugitive would be extradited, he said no decision had been made since his whereabouts were unknown.

In a related development, Dev Kumar said the police were in the process of cancelling seven firearm licences issued to the “Datuk”.

“All the firearms owned by the suspect have legitimate licences and we are in the process of cancelling them.”

In a raid on the man’s house in Miri, Sarawak, last Thursday, police seized seven firearms and more than 600 rounds of ammunition.

The firearms seized were a Glock pistol, a .223 Ruger ranch rifle and five shotguns.

The ammunition were for pistols (416 rounds), shotguns (206) and GFL 9MM Luger (one).

Two of the firearms were owned by the man for self-protection, with licences issued by the police, while the rest were for use by auxiliary policemen and their licences were issued by the Miri District Office.

Kayong, 43, whose Muslim name was Mohd Hasbie Abdullah, was shot dead while in a Toyota Hilux about 8.30am on June 21 at the Lutong traffic light junction near the E-Mart supermarket in Jalan Miri-Bintulu.
