The body of Nor Auni Sufiya, from Taman Setia, Bandar Al Mukhtaffi Bilah Shah here, was discovered about 1.5 kilometres from where she fell yesterday. It was reported that it was raining heavily at the time of the incident.

Dungun Fire and Rescue Department personnel launched a search operation after receiving a distress call at 6.18pm on Thursday.

Assistant Commissioner Jaswari Awang, when met early Friday morning, said the department’s personnel rushed to the scene after receiving the distress call.

“As soon as we arrived at the scene, we launched a search operation with the help of 15 firemen and villagers along the 3km stretch of the canal,” he said.

The victim was found early this morning and was then rushed to a clinic where she was pronounced dead.

She was laid to rest at the Durian Mas Muslim cemetery before the Friday prayers.
