Ti: Guan Eng spiteful and full of himself

MCA spokesman says it is unbecoming of a chief minister to call someone a liar or a hypocrite.

PETALING JAYA: Criticisms that DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng levels at others can also be applied to him, Ti Lian Ker said.

“Whatever he says is a reflection of himself. It is unbecoming for a chief minister to call someone a liar or a hypocrite and say that they are unprincipled.

“He is just being malicious, spiteful and full of himself, as usual,” the MCA spokesperson told FMT.

Ti was responding to Lim’s claim that MCA President Liow Tiong Lai was being insincere when the latter said his party would oppose the redelineation exercise proposed by the Election Commission (EC).

Lim, who is also the Penang chief minister, suggested that MCA oppose the proposed redelineation exercise in Cabinet, Parliament and in court.

This, Lim argued, was to prove that the party was not made of people who were “liars, unprincipled and hypocrites”, after recalling that MCA had previously vocally opposed the Hudud Bill but did not act upon it in Cabinet.

Ti refuted this, saying that MCA did in fact bring up the Hudud Bill in the Cabinet – without the help of the “DAP drama”.

The former Pahang assemblyman went on to point out that Lim himself failed to raise the issue of the Hudud Bill in Parliament.

“In fact, Lim must be reminded that he said ‘let it pass’ in another political gesture.
“He also called ‘for racially-based parties to be banned’.

“Then why is DAP working with Tun Mahathir’s party and worked with PAS in the past?,” he said, alluding to former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

PPBM, which was recently given the green light by the Registrar of Societies, was founded by Mahathir and a few former Umno leaders, including ex-Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

The party drew some brickbats when it was revealed that the party welcomed non-Bumiputeras, but only as associate members, who would not have voting rights or be able to compete for positions in the party.

PAS, meanwhile, is an Islamist party, although it has a supporters club that comprises non-Muslims.

In 2015, PAS and DAP ended their political ties following a fallout over hudud.

Ti went on to state that DAP has always been “melodramatic” and has managed to get away with its “political theatrics” for way too long.

“They have always played victim and cried foul.

“I do not want to take him to task on his many personal issues, controversies and indulgences, which he has clearly sidestepped. But the public has not forgotten them.

“Whether it’s the bungalow issue or personal issues, he (Lim) needs to first look at himself.

“DAP’s political strategy is to play victim but the truth will prevail in time,” Ti added.

In June, Lim was charged with two graft-related offences related to his purchase of a bungalow at below the market price and improper change of state land.
