
“It’s not fair when the public pays more for parking due to the government’s failure to provide adequate parking and a better public transport system.
“The privatisation of the parking system is unacceptable. It only serves the interests of a Barisan Nasional crony.”
Kok said if the mayor was so confident the public supported new measures, such as increasing parking fees and limiting the period for parking, he should commission an independent survey.
“That’s my challenge to him. As MP, I know the public opposes the new measures.
“The survey would help ascertain public reaction to the parking fee increase as well as the privatisation of the parking system in Kuala Lumpur.”
She conceded the new measures may help prevent, but only to a certain extent, the “hogging” of parking spaces.
“But that’s not the way to resolve the problem. Hogging was no reason to hike up parking fees.”
The MP was commenting on netizens expressing disbelief over the claim by KL Mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz on the new parking rates in the capital city.
“He said the public supports it. It’s hard to believe his remarks were based on feedback in Bangsar and Taman Tun Dr Ismail.
“He made the claim without any concrete evidence or details. That’s strange and unacceptable.”
As the mayor, she summed up, Mohd Amin cannot justify the new measures with general remarks.
