Passersby knock armed robber off bike

Police recover RM655 stolen from furniture store and have seized the motorcycle.

PETALING JAYA: A group of citizens helped foil the escape of an armed robber by kicking him off his motorcycle near a furniture shop in Jelapang, Ipoh.

According to a report in The Star Online, Ipoh District Police Chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said the incident occurred at 2.40pm today right after the suspect had robbed a furniture store with two accomplices.

“Several members of the public who witnessed the incident tried to stop the robbers,” he was quoted as saying.

“After kicking the suspect off his bike, they held him down and later handed him over to the police.

“Two other suspects got away on another motorcycle.”

Police recovered RM655 stolen from the furniture store and have seized the motorcycle.

Sum revealed that initial investigations showed that the suspect had previous criminal records.

Sum said that the Bangladeshi worker manning the store at the time was hit on the head by the robbers, who were armed with parang.

“The victim is still under observation at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hosital.

“He is in a stable condition.”
