PETALING JAYA: Although Bersih 2.0 have submitted notices regarding its upcoming rally, it still hasn’t fulfilled several mandatory prerequisites, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar said.

In a press statement, Khalid said that notices concerning the Nov 19 Bersih 5 rally had been submitted to the Dang Wangi and Brickfields police stations.

“Both notices stated Dataran Merdeka as the venue for the assembly, but no consent letter from the Kuala Lumpur mayor was produced, as required under Section 10 (C) and Section 11 of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.”

Khalid was responding to an earlier statement by Bersih 2.0, which said that no permit is required for a peaceful rally under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

The electoral watchdog’s statement had also demanded for Khalid to retract his statement that claimed Bersih had not submitted notices for its convoys around the country.
