PETALING JAYA:
PAS has confirmed that it will not attend Pakatan Harapan’s first convention in Shah Alam this Saturday, saying its top leaders have committed themselves to other programmes.

PAS Secretary-General Takiyuddin Hassan said he received the invitation yesterday but that the party’s top leaders had other programmes to attend.

“I’ve checked and most of us have made plans to attend other programmes. It’s hard to make last minute arrangements.

“I myself have a programme in Kota Bharu,” he said, adding that he would be attending the Sultan of Kelantan’s birthday function

Takiyuddin, however, did not give any details regarding the programmes that other leaders had to attend.

“I don’t think that needs to be revealed. Everyone has their own commitments. Everyone has party programmes which they can’t cancel (at the) last minute,” he said.

Pakatan Harapan’s first convention will see an agreement between the coalition and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) to ensure straight fights against the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next general election.

PAS has yet to decide if it will work with other opposition parties.

Opposition supporters are also split as to whether PAS should be allowed to join the grand coalition that will see all component parties agreeing to one-on-one fights against BN.
