According to her, Khalid was no longer a menteri besar and had to follow the assembly’s standing orders for explanation sessions.
“I did not receive Khalid’s application. I have read in the media reports that he had written one. I did not receive it and neither did the Speaker’s office and the State Assembly office.
“I understand that his official had contacted the Dewan’s officials but it was on an unofficial basis, asking if there was a place for him to speak on the matter,” she said at a press conference at the Selangor State Assembly lobby.
Khalid had previously said in a statement that he had contacted the state assembly office to set a date to answer the accusations levelled against him concerning the compensation offer to SPLASH.
Azmin had alleged that the Selangor Government, under Khalid’s leadership, had made an offer of RM2.975 billion for taking over the SPLASH equity between 2008 and 2014.
Khalid has denied the accusations.
Yeoh noted that Khalid’s application to answer Azmin’s accusations in the state assembly was rejected in any case according to standing orders because he had missed his opportunity.
“He is no longer a menteri besar and I have a meeting order to keep. I cannot suddenly give an independent assemblyman room to come to the assembly and speak. There are no more opportunities to give extra explanations.
“I explained to the media that the issue was raised by Port Klang (Khalid) during the policy debate.
“He disputed the SPLASH offer, which was answered by the government. Even the menteri besar has answered the matter, but Port Klang was not present in the assembly.”
Meanwhile, Bernama reported today that Azmin maintained his earlier statement that the offer price of RM2.98 billion by the state government to SPLASH was made as a result of negotiations between the two sides when Khalid was MB.
He lashed out at Khalid who claimed the takeover offer made for the acquisition when he helmed the state government was only RM250.6 million.
However, Azmin said the offer was not made officially.
“This morning, I got confirmation from Ramli Mahmud, who was the state secretary at the time, on Khalid’s decision to offer RM2.98 billion to SPLASH. This is what he must answer to.”
