PETALING JAYA:
About 3,000 Sabah Umno members have quit the party to join Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan), which is led by former Umno Vice-President Shafie Apdal.

Speaking to FMT, Warisan Vice-President Junz Wong said the 3,000 new members were from Sepanggar Umno.

“The membership forms were handed over to Warisan Youth Chief Aziz Jamman and me by Sepanggar Umno information chief Haji Mentoh Aru.”

“They left Umno because they want to join Warisan in taking back the ‘keys’ to our ‘house’.”

Wong said the party expected more to join the party as Sabahans were now looking for a strong local platform to defeat the Barisan Nasional.

In late October, Warisan Secretary-General Loretto S Padua Jr said the party received about 7,000 membership applications in just a few days after the party’s website was launched.

Last month, former Semporna MP Shafie unveiled Warisan.

Former PKR lawmaker Darell Leiking is the party’s No. 2 while Peter Anthony, Jaujan Sambakong and Wong are the vice presidents.
