
Tian Chua announced his arrest through Twitter. “Luckily I was able to take a shower,” he said. “Glad that I will be with other #Bersih5 activists and have some good rest in the lock up.”
He is being investigated under the Penal Code for rioting.
Zuraida’s arrest was announced through WhatsApp by PKR Communications Director Fahmi Fadzil. He did not say under what law she was detained.
In an earlier tweet, Tian Chua said police had surrounded his house and that he expected to be arrested.
“Police in front of my house,” he said. “Looks like I will be arrested tonight. #LawanTetapLawan.”
Yesterday, police also arrested Perak assemblyman Howard Lee Chuan How, artist Fahmi Reza, political activist Hishamuddin Rais, Bersih rally goer Siew Tech Soon and Red Shirt leader Armand Azha Abu Hanifah.
They joined a long list of people taken into custody in the last few days in connection with yesterday’s Bersih and Red Shirt rallies. These included Bersih leaders Maria Chin Abdullah and Mandeep Singh, Parti Sosialis Malaysia leader S Arutchelvan, student activists Anis Syafiqah Mohd Yusuf, Safwan Anang and Luqman Nul Hakim Zul Razali, MP Anthony Loke and Ronnie Liu of DAP and Red Shirt leader Jamal Yunos.
Bernama yesterday quoted Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as saying that police had a list of people they would arrest in connection with the rallies.
