Just as Minister in the Prime Minister’s department Azalina Othman Said tabled a motion to suspend Lim for six months for his harsh statements against the Speaker, Lim stood up and said: “I am willing to retract my harsh statement.”
Hearing this, Azalina said the Speaker will accept an open apology.
“I was informed that the Speaker is willing to accept an open apology by Segambut YB. Plus the government will withdraw the motion,” she said.
Lim then stood up at the chambers to thank the Speaker.
Just as Deputy Speaker Ronald Kiandee asked all lawmakers to learn a lesson from the issue and move on, Lim stood up again to speak on corruption in the Dewan Rakyat.
He alleged that the security guards at the parliament building were accepting “parking fees”.
According to Lim, there have been complaints that the guards were asking for RM10 to allow people to park in the premises.
“I want to ‘bersih’ (clean) this Dewan from corruption. I want serious action taken on those who have accepted bribes,” he said, to which Ismail replied that he will have the allegations investigated.
On Oct 25, Lim had reportedly called Pandikar a disgrace to Parliament after a heated argument with the Speaker.
He told the Speaker that unlike MPs who were elected into the Dewan Rakyat, Pandikar was “appointed by Malaysian Official One”, which was a reference to the United States Department of Justice’s (DoJ) term used to describe a high-ranking government official linked to the 1MDB scandal.
This resulted in Lim being the first MP to be booted out of the Special Chamber, which was held to read out the question he prepared on Budget 2017’s allocation for the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
The motion also referred to Lim’s press statement dated Oct 23, where he had allegedly questioned and belittled the Speaker’s decision to place a blanket ban on all queries regarding the DoJ’s 1MDB-linked civil forfeiture suit, ruling it as sub judice.
Lim’s press conference on April 7, declaring the Speaker as having failed to implement parliamentary reforms and hence, should resign from his post, was noted in the motion as well.
