“Not true,” he told a press conference at SK Wangsa Maju here today.
“Maybe there are some quarters who are unhappy with the unity the party members displayed during the recent Umno general assembly.”
Khairy, who is also the Umno Youth chief, was at the school to hand out school bags while promoting next year’s SEA Games, which Malaysia is hosting.
Former Umno Supreme Council member Mukhriz Mahathir had earlier this month alleged that Khairy had last year planned to resign from his ministerial post as the latter no longer had faith in Prime Minister Najib Razak following the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) controversy.
According to Mukhriz, Khairy purportedly cancelled his plans after being persuaded by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“Of course when he (Mukhriz) was in Umno, we met one another and discussed the current issues. How could I avoid him when he was also in the party?”
He said unlike last year’s Umno general assembly, where Najib’s position was being questioned, this year, all members showed their unwavering support for their president.
Khairy added this was also why some quarters have attempted to create a rift in the party by spreading all sorts of rumours.
“The vice-president (Zahid) and the Puteri Umno vice-chief (Zahida Zarik Khan) were also accused of planning to leave the party.
“But all these have been proven to be false.”
