PETALING JAYA:
Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has stepped in to free a man arrested by police of making anti-royalty remarks.

He asked police to drop the case against the man as he does not want to pursue the matter.

Johor police chief Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd confirmed releasing the man, known as “Mat Tere”, from Kota Bharu.

Tunku Ismail met the accused at the Johor police headquarters, the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page stated.

“His Royal Highness believes Mat Tere is innocent and has been victimised by individuals of higher ranks due to political agenda,” according to the Facebook page.

Mat Tere was featured in a video making an offensive statement against the prince and was arrested on Feb 8 in Kota Bharu.

Members of the public had claimed that Mat Tere was “challenged” in some physical aspects, which may have been used by certain quarters to their advantage.
