But their seemingly romantic gesture appeared to be not so romantic after all. The T-shirt was laced with sarcasm, taking a swipe at Lim’s “I love Penang” campaign.
The T-shirt read: “I love Penang, let’s make more profit” in Chinese.
Penang Gerakan vice-chairman Oh Tong Keong presented the T-shirt with a 10-point memorandum to Lim through the chief minister’s department information officer Zainol Zahar at Komtar.
“I know Lim only talks to ministers, but today we come in the spirit of love. I am a Penangite born and bred and I deserve answers.
“With this gift, I want to advise the state government to not just be bothered about making a profit but to not forget about the difficulties faced by the Penang people.
“All Penangites want is a sincere effort by the state government, not just slogans and banners,” Oh said in a press conference today.
Oh was referring to Lim’s “I love Penang” campaign, after a suggestion by a minister to put the state under federal rule.
Meanwhile, in Oh’s memorandum to Lim, he listed 10 issues that needed to be addressed:
- Halt hill development beyond allowable limits and abide by rules, regulations, and laws protecting them.
- Remedy worsening flooding in the state.
- Protect heritage and historical buildings.
- Find solutions on the exit of manufacturing companies from Penang.
- Build more low-cost and low-medium-cost housing units.
- Alleviate worsening traffic congestion.
- Review and halt unnecessary coastal and sea reclamation.
- Review increased water tariffs made by DAP since taking over Penang.
- Abolish parking fees over the weekend as promised during past general polls.
- Abolish toll at an expressway in Butterworth, which was also a promise made by DAP in past polls.
