PETALING JAYA: Police have classified Kim Jong Nam’s death as murder, as more details about the private life of the half-brother to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un emerge.

Quoting a source, Sin Chew Daily reported that the 46-year-old victim preferred to keep a low profile when in Malaysia to avoid assassination.

The Chinese daily also reported a source as saying that Jong Nam had invested in several businesses in the country for over two years. He had also conducted business in Singapore and Macau, which saw him shuttling to and fro between the countries.

Jong Nam, the source revealed, was also renting a high-end condominium here and would leave the unit when necessary.

Meanwhile, Oriental Daily quoted Selangor Police Chief Abdul Samah Mat as saying that they had classified Jong Nam’s death as murder, and not sudden death.

China Press also reported that police have had no trouble questioning the female suspect who was arrested yesterday, as she could speak simple English and Malay.

According to the daily, the 29-year-old remained calm and insisted she had not murdered anyone as she had merely been playing a prank on the victim.

Yesterday, it was reported that police had arrested a Vietnamese woman, identified as Doan Thi Huong, following Jong Nam’s death on Monday morning.

She claimed that her travelling companions, comprising a woman and four men, had asked her to spray the victim as part of a prank.

The suspect claimed that as soon as they touched down at klia2, the four men had said they wanted to play a prank on one of the passengers.

They then instructed her to spray the victim, Jong Nam, with a type of liquid. Her woman companion then covered his face with a handkerchief as instructed.
