He said the mandate lasts until the next election and that if they were to break off ties with PKR, it would be like betraying the people.
Previously, Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Samad – who is a Selangor executive councillor – said PAS would not break off relations with PKR, like it had done with DAP – its former ally in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.
But PKR and DAP are now part of Pakatan Harapan, together with PAS’ splinter party, Amanah.
Iskandar had said PAS’ place in Selangor was vital to show that it is accepted at a national level and not just in the east coast or only among Malay voters.
Speaking to reporters after an event in Gombak, Tuan Ibrahim backed Iskandar’s statement and that even though Pakatan Rakyat was now “finished” at a national level, its leaders still did a good job administering Selangor.
Before this, PKR vice-president Tian Chua said his party will continue working with PAS to topple the BN – despite PAS not wanting to have anything to do with DAP and Amanah.
In his speech at the event, Tuan Ibrahim warned participants of its mega-rally in support of the amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 to avoid any form of provocation.
He added that PAS’ “Unit Amal” will record any form of provocation and report it to the police. PAS’ “Unit Amal” is a volunteer group which helps maintain order during rallies and also provides assistance during natural disasters.
Tuan Ibrahim, who is the chairman of the rally, said it was not a demonstration but merely a rally to draw support for the proposed amendments, and that it was not political in nature.
