The Penang chief minister also called out Deputy Education Minister II Chong Sin Woon for telling a “lie” on the issue.
“To say we haven’t given the money to the Chinese schools is a lie.
“Only five of the 85 schools hadn’t received the allocations and that too, was because the schools hadn’t submitted the necessary documents as required by the Auditor-General,” Lim said at a press conference following the DAP National Leadership Retreat 2017.
Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, added that the Penang government had allocated RM4.1 million for the 85 schools.
He added that the allocations for the remaining five schools totalled RM275,000 and that the funds would be immediately disbursed to the respective schools once they have submitted the necessary documentation.
Lim was responding to Chong who yesterday, had remarked that the former had “staged a show” in presenting cheques to Chinese school representatives in January as some schools had yet to receive the allocations.
“How can Chong say we only did it for show and didn’t give the money? It’s a terrible lie.
“Just because you don’t give money to Chinese schools on time, it doesn’t mean others are like you,” he said in reference to the issue of the delayed disbursement of RM50 million in federal government allocations to Chinese schools nationwide.
Recently, DAP and MCA have been involved in a war of words over the delayed disbursement of the RM50 million allocation.
