KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Najib Razak today called for the people to remain confident in the government in order to boosts its efforts in strengthening the country’s economy.

In his latest blogpost, he said the government would strive to further stimulate the country’s economy for the benefit of the people.

He added that the strength of a country’s economy could be measured through many aspects, including through foreign direct investment which attested to foreign investors’ confidence in the economy.

“It is not easy to attract foreign investors as many countries around the world are clamouring for them,” he said.

Najib said data compiled by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority showed that foreign investment in 2016 had increased 63.4% from that of 2015.

“We managed to secure RM59 billion in foreign investment last year from RM36 billion in 2015.

“This brings the total investment last year to RM207.9 billion,” he said, adding that the increase showed foreign investors were confident in the Malaysian economy.

“If foreign investors are confident in Malaysia’s economy, do we as Malaysians have an excuse to deny these facts?” he asked.

He said foreign investors’ confidence showed that government policies in determining the direction of the national economy were on the right track.

“Indirectly, any claim that Malaysia will go bankrupt or that Malaysia is a failed state, is slander and is of a malicious intent,” he said.
