At a press conference today, Ibrahim weighed in on the debate saying “everyone” is already in the know about what would be raised during the debate, including the 1MDB and BMF issues.
He also said the debate was pointless because Nazri would be debating in his personal capacity and not representing the government.
“If they (Mahathir and Nazri) have the time and have nothing else better to do, they can carry on. If it was me, I’d rather water my plants.”
Ibrahim also said a debate between political party leaders in the run-up to an election – like the United States presidential debates – would be more beneficial as the public could then evaluate their choices based on the issues debated.
“To me the best time for a debate is when an election is around the corner between candidates. In this life, we must value time, not waste it.”
On another issue, Ibrahim said he had “nothing to say” on Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia joining Pakatan Harapan, of which DAP is a part of.
PPBM chairman Mahathir was a former patron of Perkasa and Ibrahim had said on record in the past that he was “anti-DAP”.
Last November, at Perkasa’s 7th annual general assembly, Ibrahim said he was not anti-Chinese but anti-DAP which he claimed was a chauvinistic party.
“We are an NGO that is friendly with all parties. We have ‘love and hate’ relationships with all parties. We look at the issues and we will support what is good for the country and reject what is not.
“We aren’t tied to any party. PPBM’s decision to join Pakatan Harapan is their choice. I have nothing to say.”
Earlier this week, Pakatan Harapan – which consists of PKR, DAP and Amanah – officially accepted PPBM as its fourth member.
