“We won’t think about the application being rejected. We have to be positive,” PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin told a press conference here today.

“If we look at PPBM’s registration as an example, our application was approved in 30 days, just as RoS promised. So we hope for the same with Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) registration.”

The previous opposition pact, Pakatan Rakyat, failed to register as a single entity. The now-defunct coalition blamed this on the RoS, saying that the body was acting like an agent of Barisan Nasional.

RoS, however, said that Pakatan Rakyat’s application could not be processed due to its failure to inform the societies’ regulator of the changes made by its pro tem committee in charge of the application.

When asked about this, Muhyiddin said PPBM was just the “new kid on the block”, and was unaware of the opposition’s difficulties in registering Pakatan Rakyat.

He added that PH leaders would send the application soon, once they had filled all the forms required by RoS.

Meanwhile, when asked if PPBM would pursue its effort to have PH change its name to reflect the party’s incorporation, Muhyiddin said the party leaders had voiced their views on this.

The PH technical committee would look into it and ultimately decide if there was a necessity for this, he added.

On March 14, PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced that the party’s members had unanimously agreed to form an alliance with PH.

Under the proposal, the three PH parties and PPBM will use a common logo and manifesto and avoid clashing with each other.

Following the agreement, PPBM was officially accepted by PH as its fourth component party on March 20.
