Speaking to FMT, Selangor PAS Youth chief Syarhan Humaizi Abdul Halim said the mandate to form the Selangor government came from the voters in the 2013 general election.
Syarhan said as the mandate came from the people, it wasn’t right for PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to ask PAS to leave the Selangor government.
“But if the PAS leadership asks that we leave the state government, we will not object because we aren’t power crazy,” he said on the sidelines of the PAS muktamar here.
PAS has been a member of the Selangor state administration since the 2008 general election when the opposition, comprising PKR, DAP and the Islamist party, captured the state from the Barisan Nasional.
The three opposition parties then formed the Pakatan Rakyat coalition which retained power in the state in the 2013 general election.
Earlier, Saifuddin had told PAS to do the “honourable” thing and leave the Selangor administration if the party chose to cut ties with PKR.
Gombak PAS Youth chief Md Noor Husin was more blunt in his response when asked to comment on Saifuddin’s statement.
“The Selangor government doesn’t belong to PKR and he (Saifuddin) has no right to ask us to leave,” he said.
In recent times, the relationship between PAS and PKR has been strained, with PAS taking offence at remarks made by some PKR leaders, including Selangor Menteri Besar and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, as well as PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli.
Earlier today, a Selangor PAS Youth delegate, Mohamed Sukri Omar, warned of “toppling” Azmin and Rafizi in their respective parliamentary constituencies if they continued to mock PAS.
PAS’s Dewan Ulama and its youth wing have already passed motions at their respective muktamar calling on the party to sever ties with PKR. The final decision on whether to do so will be made by PAS’s Syura Council, the party’s highest policy-making body.
