PETALING JAYA: A police inspector was arrested for allegedly killing his pregnant girlfriend in Kampung Kakai, Serian, near Kuching, The Star reported.

The suspect, who is based in the Belaga police station, is alleged to have entered the victim’s house yesterday afternoon, gone into her room and shot her.

Following the shooting, the victim’s mother ran to the neighbour’s house and informed one Laurence Michael living there, who rushed over, only to find the victim lying motionless.

According to the daily, Michael made a police report about the shooting at about 3.32pm.

A spokesman for Serian police said there was no record of a marriage between the suspect and the victim, who was a divorcee, and said to be two months pregnant.

“However, we do not know if he had secretly married the woman,” the spokesman was quoted as saying.

He added that it was a “clear cut case” and investigations would focus on the personal aspects of the suspect and victim.

According to police, the man escaped in a police car after the shooting, and was arrested the same night outside a supermarket in Matang.
