A member of the DAP youth wing’s national executive council, Jenny Choy Tsi Jen, filed the report at the Ipoh district police headquarters today over Annuar launching the book, “DAP Bahaya Kepada Melayu-Islam Di Malaysia” (DAP a danger to Malays and Islam in Malaysia).
“We have lodged a police report against Annuar Musa for breaching Clause 8A(1) and Clause 11 of the Printing Presses and Publication Act 1984 (PPPA) in launching the book containing a compilation of articles,” Choy said, in a statement.
Referring to the function where the winning entries for the RM50,000 “Lim Kit Siang is racist” essay-writing contest sponsored by the Umno information chief, were announced, Choy said such an activity had damaged the racial relationship and harmony among Malaysians
“Annuar Musa had gone a step further, ignoring the provisions of legal requirements, by launching a book which has no author, no printer and no publisher’s details. This is in contravention of Clause 11 of the PPPA 1984.
“It also contravenes Clause 8A(1) of the Act, prohibiting any publication of false news, subjecting the printer, publisher, editor or writer to an offence of imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or to a fine not exceeding RM20,000 or both,” she said, elaborating on the legal basis on which she hopes the police will investigate Annuar.
It was reported yesterday that the essay-writing contest launched by Annuar in March, attracted about 1,200 entries for the categories of articles, authorship, blogs, videos and infographics.
The book “DAP Bahaya Kepada Melayu-Islam Di Malaysia” received the top prize of RM10,000. It was written by a group of writers who chose to remain anonymous.
Annuar gave away the prizes to the winners, most of whom sent representatives.
Deriding the competition, Dapsy said it was full of racist sentiment, with the sole intent of maliciously painting Kit Siang as a racist.
“Kit Siang’s track record in the past 51 years in Malaysian politics will prove that these are all lies.”
Dapsy said Malaysian laws needed to be respected, and not repeatedly ignored and tarnished in such a way as done by Annuar.
“We urge Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar to take immediate action on Annuar and defend the rule of law of the nation.
“To make it convenient for the IGP, who seems more interested in picking up matters on Twitter, Dapsy has posted the police report on Twitter with @KBAB51 being tagged. As such, the IGP has no other reason to continue keeping quiet on the issue.”
In March, Dapsy chief Wong Kah Woh also filed a police report against Annuar over the essay-writing contest on the topic of Kit Siang being a “racist”, saying it will incite hatred and threaten the DAP leader’s safety.
Therefore, Dapsy said the breach of the PPPA with the “launch of the book” by Annuar yesterday constituted a further offence on which police must investigate urgently.
