PETALING JAYA: It was a small act of kindness, but a doctor’s quick act of helping a motorcyclist who lost control of his vehicle and crashed last week made a lasting impact on him.

Faizal Hasbullah Alimin, 20, was riding along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway near Genting Sempah last week when the crash occurred.

According to a report by Harian Metro, Dr Koh Siew Ling immediately came to his aid, providing necessary medical attention. She also stayed with Faizal until the ambulance arrived.

In an interview with the Malay daily, Faizal said he had broken his right arm. But Koh set it back into position and helped check his pulse and breathing.

“Thank you for helping me, even though we do not know each other and are of different races,” he said.

“Usually people would look at motorcyclists as ‘mat rempits’. But I saw none of that prejudice in the way she helped me.”

In the interview, he also expressed a desire to meet Koh again and thank her in person for everything she had done. Little did he know that his story had gone viral on Facebook after his friend, Muhammad Aizuddin Mohd Sharif, posted a picture of Koh helping Faizal.

Aizuddin, who was also present at the crash site, accompanied the picture with a caption explaining what Koh had done.

The picture quickly went viral, with many praising Koh for her kind act.

Learning of this, Koh went to visit Faizal at Hospital Kuala Lumpur where he was warded.

“At first, I could not recognise her,” he told Harian Metro. “But then when she came closer, I realised she was the one who had helped me after my accident.

“Thank God, my wish (to thank her in person) was fulfilled. What happened to me proves to the world that there are still many people out there who are good-hearted even if there are no blood ties.”

Koh meanwhile said she was humbled by the praise she received.

“I am humbled and grateful for everyone’s compliments. I would do it again without hesitation should such a situation arise,” she said in a post on Facebook.
