KUALA LUMPUR: Entrepreneurs believe innovation is the secret to business success, and one drug syndicate took the mantra to heart – by mixing ganja in cakes, milk, chocolate and honey, and marketing these online.

Styling itself as “Dr Ganja”, the Klang-based syndicate even offered medical services to treat illnesses which hospitals were unable to handle as a cover to push their drugs.

However, its dirty business was busted by the police last Friday with the arrest of three people – two Malaysians aged 38 and 58, and one Indonesian woman aged 35.

The mastermind of the ring was a retired military personnel, who launched the online business five months ago.

All have been remanded until June 2 to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Bukit Aman’s Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) deputy director Kang Chez Chiang told a media conference today that the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) together with the narcotics investigation department were responsible for nabbing the trio.

He said police also seized 18 ganja plants, 4kg of ganja powder, 72kg of ganja seeds, 4 litres of drug-infused oil, 1.4kg of chocolate laced with ganja, 125 litres of ganja honey, 2 litres of ganja margarine, 1 litre of milk mixed with ganja, 400gm of ganja cake and processing paraphernalia, all worth a total of RM16,000.

“The syndicate sold a piece of cake laced with ganja at RM25, RM50 for honey and RM5 per piece of chocolate,” he said.

He added this was the first case involving the online sale of ganja detected this year.

Kang also said that from Jan 1 to May 25 this year, police had seized 1,325kg of various drugs worth RM99.36 million.

In addition, a total of 76,738 people were arrested, both locals and foreigners, for drug-related offences such as testing positive for drugs, possession of drugs and trafficking in drugs.
