The sultan said he was saddened by the recent incident at Masjid An-Nur Kampung Melayu, Subang, where Sivarasa had given a speech in the prayer hall, despite the ruler’s repeated reminders not to allow mosques to be used for politics.
“I would like to emphasise to Subang MP Sivarasa – you have crossed the line,” he was quoted as saying by Malaysiakini today.
The ruler said he did not allow politicians to speak in mosques as he did not want it to be the cause of Muslim disunity.
“However, my advice was apparently ignored,” he said during a breaking of fast event at Masjid An Nur Temasya Glenmarie in Shah Alam.
Sivarasa denied claims he had given a speech or any form of “ceramah” at Masjid An-Nur Kampung Melayu.
He said he was merely at the mosque to provide contributions and had briefly conveyed his Ramadan greetings when invited to speak.
Sivarasa said he was preparing a personal letter of explanation to the sultan, which would be sent as soon as it was ready.
The Selangor ruler instructed the state Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) to investigate the incident and take action against the committee after Ramadan if it was found to have breached the rules by allowing Sivarasa to speak.
He added that the guardians of mosques should be more sensitive to his edict on disallowing politics in mosques.
