Did you see SRC documents, Gobind asks IGP

Puchong MP wants Khalid Abu Bakar to clearly state whether he and other members of the task force set up to probe 1MDB and SRC had seen any incriminating documents involving flow of money.

Gobind-Singh-Deo
KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar should state clearly whether he and other members of the Special Task Force set up to probe 1MDB and SRC had seen all bank accounts involving SRC transactions.

Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo added: “Surely the police and MACC ought to have, after all this time, had sight of all transactions in the accounts of SRC and that of the prime minister.”

Gobind said in a statement: “It would be absurd to expect one to believe that these basic documents and facts are not in their possession. That would speak volumes for their credibility. That would also throw wide open the question as to whether or not the task force has been of any use at all after all this while.”

It was reported yesterday that the IGP had asked Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown to come to Malaysia with supporting documents to assist investigations into the RM9.5 million allegedly paid to lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah who led the prosecution in Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial.

The court sentenced Anwar to five years’ jail in 2014.

Sarawak Report had alleged that the money paid to Shafee had come from the personal bank account of Prime Minister Najib Razak.

It had earlier been alleged that money had flowed from SRC International, a former subsidiary of 1MDB, into Najib’s accounts.

Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali said last month that the MACC was expected to wrap up investigations into the money flow from SRC to the prime minister’s accounts within a month.

Rewcastle-Brown, replying to Khalid, said he should have the same documents which Sarawak Report quoted from as he was a member of the task force which investigated the 1MDB case. She was reported as saying there was nothing she could supply to the IGP that he had not already been made privy to.

Gobind said: “Having been set up to probe a matter as big as 1MDB and SRC, and having attracted the heads of the major institutions such as PDRM (police), MACC, Bank Negara and the attorney-general, we expect top quality investigations from this force.

“Where there are doubts, they must answer. In this case clearly there are. So the IGP or anyone else from the force needs to speak up to put matters right.”

Gobind said if they had the documents they must state if the allegations were true or not.

“If they do not, then they must explain why up until now, basic documents and facts like these have not yet been obtained to assist in their probe.”
