Multiple police reports were made over the incident, which is said to have started about 3.30pm, when the men barged into the Taman Melati Gombak community hall, where the wedding was taking place.
A video clip showing the chaos and unruly behaviour by the “wedding crashers” has now gone viral on social media.
According to police, the bridegroom told them that the men had accused him and his friends of making a din with their motorcycles.
“The men then threw firecrackers into the hall and barged into the hall with a parang,” he was quoted as saying.
The rowdy group had also allegedly torn the groom’s clothes and even stolen the cash gifts from the guests, before destroying a Honda superbike which had been rented for the big day.
According to the daily, Wangsa Maju deputy district police chief DSP Ramli Kasa said the incident involved 20 people, with a 32-year-old man arrested the same day.
“We are currently tracking down the other men believed to have been involved,” he told NST, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possessing weapons during a riot.
