Azmin’s lawyer Latheefa Koya said they had given Khalid an opportunity to do his duty as a policeman.
“But since he does not care, MB has instructed us to proceed with the next course of action,” she said.
On Tuesday, Azmin sent a legal notice to Khalid demanding that the top cop issue a warrant of arrest on Low, who Azmin claimed had violated various criminal laws.
He gave the IGP 14 days to act or he would sue the police to compel them to take the necessary steps including seeking Interpol’s help to arrest Low.
Khalid told reporters yesterday that he would not comply with Azmin’s demand and was willing to take him on in court.
“Go ahead and take legal action. I will wait (for it),” he said.
Khalid said the investigations into the embattled state-owned firm and those with links to it was ongoing.
In November 2015, the home ministry, in a parliamentary reply to Kelana Jaya MP Wong Chen, said the government had been unsuccessful in locating certain individuals to facilitate investigations into 1MDB.
Low was one of the individuals wanted for questioning, along with 1MDB’s former senior executives Casey Tang Keng Chee and Jasmine Loo Ai Swan, SRC International managing director Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil, and Deutsche Bank country manager Yusof Annuar Yaacob.
