KUALA LUMPUR: Police are closing in on five men in connection with the assault of a youth at a cyber cafe in Setiawangsa here last Thursday.

Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa said the 21-year-old male victim was playing on a computer at the premises when a group of men attacked him with various weapons, including a sword and fire extinguishers at about 3am.

He said the victim sustained serious bodily injuries and received seven stitches on the head.

“Police obtained a recording of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area and are now identifying the suspects,” he said when contacted here today.

Rusdi said the victim was now being treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

The 20-second CCTV recording, which went viral on social media, showed one of the suspects also attempting to point an object, believed to be a pistol, at the victim. He was also seen being dragged to the entrance door.

None of the customers at the cyber cafe attempted to help him.
