Over 250 Malaysians nabbed for IS links since 2013

Home minister says 52 foreigners from 14 different countries also detained over such links.

PETALING JAYA: A total of 258 Malaysians linked to terror group, Islamic State (IS), were nabbed between 2013 and June 30 this year, the home ministry revealed.

Authorities also nabbed 52 foreigners from 14 different countries over such links.

“Meanwhile, 95 Malaysians have been identified as having links to IS militants in Syria and Iraq, eight of whom were nabbed when they returned to Malaysia,” Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in a written reply.

Zahid was a responding to a question by Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (BN-Tanah Merah), who wanted to know the number of Malaysians and foreigners involved with the IS.

Of the 95, Zahid said 34 were killed, while 53 remain in conflict areas.
