Amanah showing hunger for power, says PAS

Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehen says Amanah’s motion to review PAS’ position in state unnecessary as there is no problem in the administration.

PETALING JAYA: Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi today accused Amanah of being “hungry” for power after it urged Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali to review the Islamist party’s position in the state government.

Sallehen said Selangor Amanah should not have brought up the issue at a time when there were no problems in the state administration.

“This is not an election issue but only exposes their hunger for power,” he told FMT.

The Selangor Amanah convention yesterday adopted a motion urging Azmin to review the position of PAS in the state administration.

The motion was proposed by Ampang Amanah chief Mohd Anuar Mohd Yusof and accepted by the delegates without objection.

Today, Azmin said he would let the Amanah central leadership deal with the matter.

Anuar said the participation of PAS in the state administration, despite not being part of Pakatan Harapan which groups PKR, DAP, Amanah and PPBM, could hinder the coalition’s efforts to win the coming general election.

Sallehen dismissed Anuar’s claim and alleged that the call was motivated by fears of 3-cornered contests in the general election.

“Both PKR and Amanah know they cannot win in 3-cornered fights in Selangor, not because of PAS,” he said.

He said PAS would not seek a meeting with Azmin to discuss the Amanah motion.

“We don’t want to bother the menteri besar in his management of the state.

“We want the menteri besar to feel at ease administering the state government like at present, because that is the mandate given to him in GE13,” he said.

Amanah was formed in late 2015 by former leaders of PAS who were defeated in the party elections the same year.

“Amanah doesn’t need to busy itself with the state’s administration. If it wants to do so, it should wait until the next general election,” said Sallehen.
