 | September 21, 2017

The kopitiam outlet operator and beverage manufacturer says seven victims, all Myanmars and Nepalis, were taken to hospital to treat their injuries.

PETALING JAYA: OldTown Bhd, the operator of the OldTown White Coffee chain, has confirmed that an explosion occurred at its central food processing centre in Subang Jaya.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia, the kopitiam outlet operator and beverage manufacturer said an explosion took place at its wholly-owned subsidiary Emperor’s Kitchen Sdn Bhd’s (EK) plant on Jalan Subang 10, Subang Industrial Park, about 8am today.

It said the plant had temporarily ceased its food processing operation, reported The Star.

OldTown said only the production floor was affected, and the adjacent areas occupied by other operating units and its administration office were not affected.

“The Fire and Rescue Department, police as well as the management are still conducting investigations to determine the cause of the explosion which injured several employees,” it said.

Seven victims, all Myanmars and Nepalis, were taken to Serdang Hospital for treatment.

OldTown said the company and the management were committed to providing full support and assistance to the injured employees.

According to OldTown, the food processing operation was expected to re-start “in the shortest time possible” in order to mitigate any supply disruption to its food and beverage chain outlets.

It also said there was no impact on the coffee and beverage manufacturing and warehousing facilities.
