Star Online quoted Ipoh district police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong as saying two officers were sent from the Pekan Baru police station after receiving a call about the incident.
He said by then, firemen had put out the blaze.
The gazebo was a temporary structure made of wood and attap. At the time of the fire, nothing was kept there.
“We have already recorded the statements of the caller and a few witnesses, including a priest from the church,” Sum said.
Police are waiting for a full report from the Fire and Rescue Department.
“We have yet to determine what time the fire occurred, or whether there are any elements of foul play,” he told the news portal.
