However, Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed refused to give more details.
“We are considering several options, but there is no need to discuss it with the media or in public,” he told FMT.
Zamihan is an officer with the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) but was seconded to the home ministry to carry out programmes for prisoners.
His speech at a mosque in October criticising the Johor sultan’s stand on a Muslim-only laundrette earned him the wrath of both the Selangor and Johor palace, following which his religious credentials or tauliah were revoked.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi nonetheless defended Zamihan as an asset in the government’s efforts to combat terrorism.
But Zamihan’s criticism of the establishment of the King Salman Centre for International Peace (KSCIP) in Putrajaya did not sit well with some Umno leaders.
In his response, Nur Jazlan had chided Zamihan, asking him to “shut up or quit”.
The government’s contradictory stand on Zamihan with regard to anti-terrorism efforts was raised by Amanah MP, Raja Kamarul Bahrin, who asked why Putrajaya refused to heed Zamihan’s warning against cooperation with Riyadh.
Raja Bahrin said Zamihan “may have information about the Saudi role in international terrorism”.
“Why is the deputy minister closing the issue?” he asked, referring to Nur Jazlan.
