KUALA LUMPUR:
Jamal Yunos was freed from a 2-day remand today following his arrest for allegedly threatening former minister Zaid Ibrahim recently.

Moments after his release, the Umno Sungai Besar division chief claimed his request for a mattress for his lockup cell was not entertained by the police, causing him to suffer pain from a swollen back until he fainted.

“The magistrate (who ordered his remand) allowed me to have a mattress but until my release I didn’t get it. My lawyer last night tried to send a mattress to me but was disallowed, and I ended up sleeping on cement,” Jamal told FMT.

“This morning, my back was swollen and I blacked out momentarily. The police wanted to send me to hospital but, since my remand ended today, I went straight to hospital on my own,” he said, adding that he went to Ampang Puteri Hospital for treatment.

Jamal was arrested on Saturday after he threatened to hit Zaid with a sledgehammer for allegedly showing the Selangor Sultan disrespect.

Zaid had sent out a tweet “advising” Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to be careful in his choice of words in criticising Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad over his alleged slur on the Bugis.

Jamal on Wednesday burned a cut-out of Zaid in protest.

An unrepentant Jamal today vowed to continue his protest tomorrow to demand that the authorities take action against Zaid.

“My arrest has not crushed my spirit one bit. I will continue my protest tomorrow until Zaid is brought to justice. We don’t want any more insolent acts against the sultan in future.

“Zaid is a stubborn person. We don’t want him to merely apologise, we want action taken against him. Is Zaid immune while action was taken against me? I don’t understand this,” he said.
