In a statement today, Wisma Putra said Malaysia commended the swift action taken by Saudi defence forces in intercepting the missile.
“Malaysia stands firmly in solidarity with Saudi Arabia in confronting this vicious act that would threaten the peace and security of Saudi Arabia.
“The peace and security of Saudi Arabia is pivotal to that of the Arab region and the Muslim world as a whole,” it said.
Malaysia urged parties involved in the ongoing Yemen conflict to resolve the matter peacefully through the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative, as well as in accordance with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015).
It also urged others not to interfere in the internal affairs of Yemen.
It was reported that the ballistic missile directed at Riyadh was carried out by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
