SHAH ALAM:
Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday pleaded with component parties to put aside their differences and personal goals, saying this is the only way to win the 14th general election (GE14).

Speaking at the coalition’s GE14 manifesto launch last night, the former prime minister said PH was not formed to help its members pursue their personal goals and dreams.

“Everyone needs to come together and work together if they want to win the coming general election.

“There is no multiracial coalition that exists without arguments and disagreements.

“It is not possible to please every individual in the coalition and make everyone 100% satisfied and happy,” he said.

Mahathir was likely referring to ongoing disagreements within the coalition regarding seat allocations, and the tussle between parties over the suitability of candidates.

“If each party dislikes a candidate, wants its choice of candidate, and says it will not support a certain candidate fielded in a constituency, the candidate will lose.

“If this situation is repeated in various constituencies, many more PH candidates will lose.

“Please don’t lose, I have an ambition to be the next prime minister again,” he said.

This is the first time Mahathir, who led the country for 22 years, has openly said he wants to become prime minister for another term.

“Don’t let me down, do not get angry. We must help each other and join forces to win this general election.

“This is the only way we can win the general election,” he said at the Ideal Convention Centre Shah Alam.

Mahathir, who is also PPBM chairman, also called on all party members to unite and avoid infighting.

“If a party works alone, then Prime Minister Najib Razak will remain in his position.

“Indeed, the opposition coalition has its own struggles, but at this point we have to prioritise taking down Barisan Nasional.”

Also present at the launch were PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Amanah president Mat Sabu and other top leaders from PH.
