PETALING JAYA: A two-year-old girl died after being left in a car for four hours at a vocational college car park in Port Dickson today, media reports said.

The incident occurred at 9am when the child’s mother, who is working as a lecturer at the college, brought the girl to work.

Port Dickson district police chief Supt Zainudin Ahmad said the woman, 32, parked her Proton Saga and left, forgetting about her child.

She only realised she had left her daughter in the car at 1pm.

She rushed to the car and found the girl unconscious.

“The woman rushed her daughter to the Port Dickson health clinic but the girl was confirmed dead,”  Zainudin said.

The girl is believed to have succumbed to heatstroke.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act for child abuse.

Offenders can be jailed up to 10 years and fined not more than RM20,000 upon conviction.
