PETALING JAYA:
A first-time election candidate, gym-owner Zainurizzaman Moharam, has promised to provide free gym lessons if elected.

Zainurizzaman, 38, is to be fielded by Parti Sosialis Malaysia in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat.

He was presented to the media today, and also promised to help voters with their medical expenses, and help them to secure jobs and improve their personal safety.

Zainurizzaman, who prefers to be called Zack, said good health was very much on his mind as he was a liver cancer patient.

Although he was not yet a PSM member, Zack said he was honoured to be invited by PSM to be a candidate. Asked if he would later join PSM, Zack said, “My heart is already with PSM.”

Zainurrizzaman holds a business management degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia. He has two young children.

Zainurizzam said he was bringing a message to the people in Sungai Buloh “to end the chaotic politics of Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan”. He said he had done the groundwork in getting close to the people and making himself known.

At the media conference to introduce him were PSM president Mohd Nasir Hashim and secretary-general A Sivarajan.

Sivarajan said the party was opening up to non-members such as social activists with the potential to contest on a PSM ticket and speak up for the people.

The Kota Kemuning state seat in Selangor had also been offered to non-members, he said, without naming the candidate.

Earlier this week in Penang, former DAP member and assemblyman Teh Chee Yeu announced he would contest in the Sungai Pinang state seat on a PSM ticket.

Several criteria were imposed on non-members contesting as PSM candidates: they must declare their assets to the public, abide by PSM’s manifesto, and not play racial politics, which Sivarajan said was “the biggest problem in the country now”.

The candidate was also required to set up a service centre in his constituency should he be elected to enable services to be delivered to people continuously,” Sivarajan said.

PSM will announce the full list of its candidates next week.
