PETALING JAYA:
Pakatan Harapan (PH) is making major gains in parliamentary and state seats, with early results of the general election showing signs of a “Malay tsunami” against Barisan Nasional (BN), as predicted by the opposition parties.

FMT has learnt that top leaders of the four-party coalition are currently meeting at a prominent hotel in Petaling Jaya.

Major casualties for BN could include MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, MIC president Dr S Subramaniam, Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong and Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed, according to unofficial results so far.

Meanwhile, newcomer Fahmi Fadzil of PKR is leading against BN’s Raja Nong Chik in Lembah Pantai.

PH’s prime ministerial candidate Dr Mahathir Mohamad is also set to make a historic comeback, as the count so far shows him leading against BN incumbent Nawawi Ahmad.

PH is also making major inroads in Johor, a key focus of the opposition coalition. PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin is leading in the state seat of Gambir. At press time, PH has picked up 9 state seats, level with the BN, in a state that has been regarded as a BN stronghold.

PH is also set to retain Selangor, where the coalition has held power for two terms.

PH is also set to return to power in Perak, which it won in 2008, ruling for some 10 months before its state government collapsed following defections.
