KUALA LUMPUR:
The Cabinet will decide on Wednesday if Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) will be allowed to air the 2018 FIFA World Cup matches live.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said his ministry had sent a proposal to the government, adding that it would be one way to promote RTM and increase its viewership.

“We hope the decision will be favourable to us,” he told reporters after a visit to Wisma Bernama.

He was responding to PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who had wanted to look into the possibility of airing the World Cup matches live.

When asked on the cost of doing this, Gobind said he would make it public once the Cabinet comes to a decision on the proposal.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Russia, will run from June 14 to July 15.
