Woman dies, 10 injured in Karak bus accident

The bus is believed to have gone out of control before hitting the road divider and overturning.

KUALA LUMPUR:
A woman was killed and 10 others injured when a bus overturned at KM33.3 of the Karak Highway heading towards the capital yesterday.

In the 6.30pm incident, the bus which was heading to Shah Alam, Selangor, from Jerantut, Pahang, was believed to have gone out of control before hitting the road divider and overturning.

There were 41 passengers on the bus.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations management branch chief Alimaddia Bukri said the remaining 30 passengers and driver were not injured. They have been taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, Sungai Buloh Hospital and Selayang Hospital for treatment.

“A fire engine with 32 firemen from the Selayang and Bentong fire and rescue stations rushed to the scene after receiving a call from the public at 6.34pm,” Alimaddia said.

The victim who died at the scene was identified as Emylia Mohd Zaki, 35.
