PUTRAJAYA: The by-election for the Balakong state constituency in Selangor will be held on Sept 8, the Election Commission (EC) announced today.
EC deputy chairman Othman Mahmood said nomination would be on Aug 18 while early voting would be on Sept 4.
“The campaign period is 21 days, from nomination day up to 11.59pm on Sept 7,” he said in a press conference at the EC headquarters after a special meeting on the by-election.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Pakatan Harapan assemblyman Ng Tien Chee of DAP in an accident on the Grand Saga Highway on July 20.
In the 14th general election in May, Ng won the seat with a majority of 35,538 votes, beating Lim Chin Wah of Barisan Nasional (BN) and Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali of PAS.
