The police are investigating a claim by a group of Temiar Orang Asli that a state assemblyman had fired a gun into the air during his visit to Kampung Sungai Papan, Gerik on January 19.

Perak CID Chief, Goh Kok Liang said in a statement here today that the case was being investigated under Section 39 of the Firearms Act 1960.

Yesterday, a local paper reported that the Orang Asli had lodged a report at the Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur that they were not allowed to make a report against the assemblyman at the Lenggong-Gerik police station.
