Why no MA63 progress report to UN, asks Warisan MP

Azis Jamman says he was informed that not a single report has been submitted to the UN secretary-general since the Federation of Malaysia was formed.

Sepanggar MP Azis Jamman wants to know what the legal implications are for not filing the MA63 progress report.
KUALA LUMPUR:
A Warisan MP is demanding that Putrajaya confirm whether it submitted a progress report on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) to the United Nations (UN) as required by the international body.

Azis Jamman (Warisan-Sepanggar) said he had been informed that not a single report had been submitted to the UN secretary-general since the Federation of Malaysia was formed some 58 years ago.

“The government must explain if this is indeed true.

“If so, why wasn’t it done? And what are the legal implications?” he said, referring to the submission of the progress report.

He said this when debating the King’s speech at the Dewan Rakyat today.

Azis also called out Maximus Ongkili, who was Sabah and Sarawak affairs minister under the Perikatan Nasional administration, on his promise that the government would resolve the four remaining issues when it came to MA63.

The outstanding issues are the cash payment (oil royalties), ownership of the oil minerals and oil fields, the Territorial Sea Act 2012 and state rights over the continental shelf.

Ongkili was reinstated to the post under Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s government.

“He had promised to resolve it in six months previously. It is now coming to two years and yet there is no development.

“Will it now be resolved in 100 days?” he said referring to the target the prime minister has given his Cabinet.

Azis also questioned if Putrajaya would retain the decision by the previous administration against making public the final report by the special committee on MA63.
