‘Perak PH looking for a formula’ after no party wins majority

Ngeh Koo Ham says he hopes supporters will understand that solutions must be found under imperfect conditions.

Ngeh Koo Ham says no single party has won enough seats to form a majority in the state assembly.
IPOH:
Pakatan Harapan’s Perak chief, Ngeh Koo Ham, says the coalition is looking for a formula to form a new Perak government, as no single party had managed to secure a simple majority in the general election.

The latest results from the Election Commission, with 42 of the 59 seats counted, show Perikatan Nasional with 19, Pakatan Harapan 17, and Barisan Nasional with 6.

Results of the remaining 18 seats are still to come.

Ngeh, who is Perak DAP chief, hoped PH supporters would understand that solutions and decisions must be found “under imperfect conditions.”

“In these situations, we don’t compromise our principles if we make friends with another party. It’s not done because we have changed our principles, but for the good of the people,” he told FMT.

The Election Commission’s official results so far have Perikatan Nasional winning 19 seats, PH 17, and Barisan Nasional 6. Votes for several seats are still being counted.

Ngeh, who is leading in his bid to retain the Beruas parliamentary seat, said this same situation could be one faced by parties looking to claim Putrajaya.

“We are trying to find a solution,” he said.
