PETALING JAYA:
The police have arrested seven teenagers on suspicion of assaulting another teen after a 59-second video appearing to show the assault went viral on social media.

Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Raub Selamat said they received a report at about 4.10pm yesterday from a 15-year-old boy who claimed to have been physically assaulted by seven teenagers at Taman Bestari Indah.

“The victim sustained bruising on both arms and swelling on the right thigh, and experienced general discomfort throughout his body, including his right thigh and body,” he said in a statement.

“Initial investigations found that the incident took place on Aug 9 at approximately 3pm.”

The seven suspects, aged between 14 and 17, were arrested following raids on six different locations in Johor Bahru yesterday.

Raub said the police also seized several items of clothing worn by the suspects and a mobile phone.

He said the seven will be brought before the Johor Bahru magistrates’ court for a remand order.

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code, which covers rioting, and carries a punishment of up to two years in jail or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
