PUTRAJAYA:
Ismail Sabri Yaakob has brushed off claims that there are camps within Umno, saying the decision to nominate him as prime minister candidate for GE15 shows it remains united.

He said the Umno Supreme Council’s decision yesterday to nominate him as prime minister candidate showed that claims that the party was divided were not true.

Asked if the announcement of his candidacy as prime minister showed that GE15 was getting closer, Ismail simply answered: “I don’t know yet.”

Previously, it was alleged that there were at least two camps in Umno, with one faction aligned with party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former prime minister Najib Razak, and the other backing Ismail.

However, Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki claimed the existence of different camps within the party did not mean it was divided.
